Celebrations for the Battle of Clontarf 1014-2014 will take place on Saturday and Sunday 19th and 20th of April 2014 in St. Anne's Park at 10am to 8pm on both days.

Please note that entrance to the Park will be closed on Mount Prospect Avenue. Other events will take place on the Clontarf Seafront Promenade. There will be no Dart Services from Connolly Station to Howth which includes Clontarf on this Sunday the 20th of April 2014.

To those who intend to attend this Event it is expected that over 50000 will be in attendance. Traffic on Sybil hill will be a Nightmare therefore consider walking. There are other entrances to the Park on the Clontarf Road and Watermill Road.

The High King of Ireland was Killed in the Battle fighting the Vikings!

Children will enjoy a range of exciting activities including a giant loom with visitors invited to participate in the ancient art of weaving to create a giant tapestry. Families will be invited to make their mark by creating their own Viking or Gaelic flag for an installation in the park. Award winning artist Breda Marron will invite children to help her create a labyrinth from Irish willow. Visual artist Ger Clancy will show children how to prepare for battle by making a sword and shield and Niamh Lawlor of Pucca Puppets will host an interactive storytelling session for young children with face painting and a Brian Boru treasure hunt also taking place.

Launch of the official Battle of Clontarf Memorial Medallion

Dennis McIntyre has commissioned a special memorial medallion to mark the Millennium of the Battle of Clontarf. This medallion will be launched in Clontarf Castle on the 30th January. All are welcome to attend.

The official memorial medallion was specially struck and minted to commemorate the millennium of the epic Easter 1014 Battle of Clontarf where the forces of the Irish High King Brian Boru defeated the viking invaders.The landmark event was a watershed in Irish history.If this Easter 1014 battle had not happened would Easter 1916 have taken place?

The medallion is of zinc alloy casting with an antique gold finish.It is a real gem, a true memento,authentic, special, different and a collectors item.The medallion makes a wonderfully beautiful and appropriate gift, present or presentation to be kept and treasured.
